  Seasoned oak firewood
Seasoned oak wood is oak that has been naturally dried over time—typically 12 to 24 months—to reduce its internal moisture content to around 15–20%. This drying process, known as seasoning, allows the wood to burn more efficiently and cleanly than freshly cut (“green”) oak, which contains too much water to ignite easily. During seasoning, logs are split and stacked in a well-ventilated area, protected from rain but exposed to air and sunlight. As moisture evaporates, the wood becomes lighter, harder, and develops visible cracks at the ends, indicating readiness for burning. Seasoned oak is prized for its dense grain, long-lasting burn, and high heat output, making it a top choice for fireplaces, wood stoves, and outdoor fire pits. It produces minimal smoke and creosote buildup, contributing to cleaner fires and safer chimneys. Because of its slow burn rate and steady heat, seasoned oak is considered one of the best and most reliable firewoods available.
